My Thermostat is flashing "Filter." What does it mean?

The change filter light will appear on your Trane thermostat to remind you to either clean or change your filter(s). To make modifications to the frequency of filter changes, press the filter button on the thermostat, then push the up or down button to change. If you have a Honeywell thermostat, press the "i" key until "Air" is displayed. Then press the "Time" up arrow key to reset. As always, refer to your thermostat manual for additional information, however if you do not find what you are looking for, feel free to call our service department.

How often should my filter be changed or cleaned?

At least every 3 months. An easy way to remember is "Change of Seasons - Change/Clean the Filters". Depending on your particular needs, the frequency may be different. You'll be able to gauge the frequency after checking the filters a couple of times. If you run your fan continuously, you may want to check your filters after 30 days. The same would apply to Electronic Air Cleaners for cleaning frequency. For EAC cleaner or high efficiency pleated filters, call or e-mail our service department from the contact menu.

Why does my thermostat say "Recovery" on it?

This is an energy savings feature that your thermostat contains called Adaptive Intelligent Recovery. What this means is that your thermostat "learns" when to start up the system so that your desired set point is reached by the start of the next program period.

My system is not working, what should I do?

Prior to calling for service, please check the following:

  1. Earthquake shut off valve; check to see if it has been tripped (if you purchased one).
  2. Power to the unit; check breaker to make sure it is on
  3. Thermostat setting; check to see if it is in the right mode, i.e., "heat" or "cool" (refer to your thermostat manual for additional information).

Emergency service is available 24 hours a day by simply calling our regular telephone number and following the instructions. Please note that overtime charges will apply after normal business hours, and if you have an extended warranty plan, TRANE will cover labor at the regular hourly rate. You do have the option of paying the difference between straight time and overtime rate, if you still wish to have one of our technicians out after regular hours.

How often should my system be checked by a certified technician?

Service checks should be performed on the equipment once a year to head off any problems before they start, and to maintain the maximum efficiency of your new equipment. If you have an extended warranty on your equipment, regular maintenance is encouraged. As with most agreements, if regular maintenance is not performed to prevent mechanical failure, it may compromise any covered repairs that you may have in the future. Tailored preventive maintenance plans are available by calling our office and asking for the service department.

How come my fan runs all the time?

We have customized high efficiency equipment to ensure that you will be comfortable and happy with the sytem that we have installed for you. On initial set up of the system, we have programmed the thermostat for continuous fan operation. This does two things: it constantly filters the air for better indoor air quality, and constantly moves the air for a more even temperature throughout your home/office. If you have purchased indoor air quality options for your system (for instance, an electronic air cleaner or UV lights), these products do not operate unless the fan is running. The continuous fan feature can be turned off upon request, or see your thermostat guide to disable this feature and set fan to "auto".
